Transforming Quality in Pre-Registration Physiotherapy Education

This project aims to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for future physiotherapists.

Redefining physiotherapy education

In the ever-evolving field of healthcare, the quality of education for upcoming professionals must be prioritised. Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), with the support of the CSP education team, has taken a significant step on this path with the Transforming Quality in Pre-Registration Physiotherapy Education project, which officially began in July 2024 and will run for 10 months to May 2025.

The insights gained from the project are poised to redefine physiotherapy education and the CSP’s processes for quality assurance, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the profession. Leading this transformative project is a dedicated team from GCU, committed to enhancing the educational experience and outcomes for future physiotherapists.

About the project

The Transforming Quality in Pre-Registration Physiotherapy Education project aims to revamp physiotherapy education by focusing on several key areas.

Quality assurance of physiotherapy education

The project seeks to gather insight to inform an update of the CSP Learning and Development Principles, ensuring they are aligned with the needs of the public, the physiotherapy workforce and the higher education institutions and will link in with the physiotherapy career framework. This process will also include the integration of the latest research findings, guidelines, and technological advancements affecting the physiotherapy profession and higher education.

Accreditation

While all pre-registration physiotherapy education in the UK is accredited by the CSP, the processes related to this have remained unchanged for many years. This project will examine the process of quality assurance and understand its value while seeking to improve efficiency.

Technology integration

The project will introduce digital tools and platforms that enable interactive involvement.

Focus on practice

A significant aspect of the project is to ensure representation of the practice component of education. This involves utilising partnerships with healthcare providers and educators involved in practice-based learning
