THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rangers Football Club as U16 & Lead Boys’ Academy Physiotherapist. This role is responsible for the physiotherapy provision of the U16 boys’ team and will lead the delivery of the Academy Physiotherapy Programme to ensure a first-class player experience for players across the U9 to U16 age groups of the academy. They will report to the Academy Medical Services Manager.

The ideal candidate will be an organised, dependable individual who has the ability to work as part of a team, yet also make decisions and work on their own initiative. Communication skills as well as IT literacy (Office and Excel) are crucial for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Integrate the structure and organisation of the Academy Sports Medicine department.
  • Implement the Academy Physiotherapy Programme and Prevention Strategies.
  • Liaise with the Academy Medical Services Manager on a day-to-day basis on the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of players.
  • Design and implementation of individualised rehabilitation programmes and return to fitness protocols for all players in the Under 16 age group.
  • Collaborate closely with the sports science team and programme.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide match day cover for U16 team and coordinate the Foundation.
  • Phase and Youth Development Phase match cover as required.
  • Implement and oversee the medical screening as per Academy requirements.
  • Ensure the application of the club injury surveillance system.
  • Support the management of the lead Academy Physiotherapy staff.
  • Clinical assessment/treatment of injuries and medical notetaking to HCPC standards.
  • Liaise with staff from other departments (Sports Science, coaches) on the development of each player.
  • Contribute to the Academy internal CPD programme and engage in all external CPD as required by your role and to maintain your professional licence.
  • Give immediate attention to injured players and ensure a clear communication pathway with coaching staff are made aware of all injuries sustained.
  • Communicate and liaise with the professional phase and clinic Physiotherapists regarding the medical management of academy players.
  • Ensure that appropriate and comprehensive medical notes are completed on Sports Office within 24 hours of an injury occurring.
  • Organise the medical side of international tournaments and evening clinic cover when required.

Operational functions:

  • Working autonomously to an agreed level and in the best interests of the Academy.
  • Forging positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to benefit the Academy.
  • Being visible to all internal and external stakeholders and supporting key staff when liaising with parents at critical moments.
  • Championing all Club and Academy policy through ensuring best practice in areas such as safeguarding, health and safety and equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the coaching department.
  • Living the values of the Club and championing our culture to help deliver the Academy performance plan and ultimately the vision of the Academy and the Club.
