Comment: professional opportunities

Whether you’re just embarking on your career as a physio, or have been in the business for decades, we hope you’ll find plenty to interest you in this issue of Frontline.

From our interviews with the physios treating Rugby World Cup players or working at the Commonwealth Youth Games, through to our interview with musculoskeletal joint repositioning pioneer Brian Mulligan, you can rely on Frontline to keep you in the picture about your profession (see News pages and page 22).

So many CSP members start out wanting to work in sports, only to change their minds as they get into the second or third year of their course. Frontline shows you career opportunities that may be outside your comfort zone. For those of you embarking on your physio course, it’s never too soon to start thinking about what sort of physio you would like to be, and how you’ll achieve your goals.

Check out recent graduate Chris Martey’s top tips on how to get your first job for a start (page 26).

And Patrick Shaughnessy, who recently got his first physio job, talks about how a childhood illness influenced his career choice – and the importance of making your CV as strong as you can (page 66).

Physiotherapy is a great profession with some wonderful opportunities, particularly as the CSP campaigns for its value to be better understood. So make the most of it!
