ARC provides a yearly opportunity for members to meet, discuss and debate important matters for the profession, the CSP’s priorities and the way the society works.

The 2024 agenda covered topics such as pay, terms and conditions, equity, diversity and belonging, international conflict, environmental sustainability and much more.

Representative groups presented motions on these topics, followed by other speakers responding, with further time following that for debate. A vote was taken on each motion by nominated reps for each group (for example regional networks). The motions that were passed and accepted by ARC became resolutions and policy of the conference.

Sylvia Wojciechowski, CSP chair of council said:

The varied topics and lively discussions at ARC have given Council a lot to think about. We value greatly the thought and work that goes into our member representatives putting forward motions to the conference.

As ARC is an advisory body to the CSP’s elected council, ARC resolutions are not automatically mandatory and the CSP council can decide to accept or reject them.

Since June, CSP council have been considering each of the resolutions of the conference. At a meeting last week its responses to most of the resolutions were agreed and will be published to those groups who originally proposed the motions imminently.

Sylvia said:

As Council members, we are entrusted with the important task of carefully reviewing and assessing motions from our members. Our responsibility is to advance the strategic ambitions of the CSP while thoughtfully balancing the costs and resources required for any new initiatives we identify as priorities.

Further work is being undertaken on other responses that groups will receive in the new year. Once complete they will be published on the CSP website in full.
