CSP is pleased to share that Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has confirmed a significant change in its plans for MSK services in Lincolnshire after existing contracts were put under review earlier this year.
Lincolnshire ICB has decided not to proceed with the termination of all MSK Any Qualified Provider (AQP) contracts previously scheduled for February 2025. Instead, the ICB will maintain the current service model while undertaking a comprehensive review of MSK services. This new approach reflects the ICB’s commitment to ensuring MSK services meet the evolving needs of Lincolnshire’s population.
A Strategic Path Forward
The CSP East Midlands Regional staff team has been working closely with local AHP leaders to represent the physiotherapy profession in this matter and is pleased to share that the ICB has outlined a revised plan for the future provision of MSK services. Over the next few months, the ICB will conduct a review to map current population needs and forecast future demands for MSK care. Following this review, a procurement process will identify the best way to deliver MSK services for Lincolnshire.
To provide stability during this transition, all current AQP contracts are likely to be extended which will provide continuity of care for patients and stability for providers while the ICB works to develop a robust and forward-thinking service model.
Collaboration and Evidence-Based Planning
The ICB is committed to maintaining its strong partnerships between primary care providers and community care services. To support its Joint Forward Plan, the ICB has already commissioned an evidence review into the value and impact of MSK services. This review will inform the design of future services, ensuring they are aligned with both patient needs and system priorities.
This commitment reflects the ICB’s recognition of the vital role MSK physiotherapists play in delivering high-quality care and driving positive patient outcomes. Pip White, CSP Professional Adviser for the East Midlands, said:
We will continue to work closely with the ICB and other stakeholders to ensure that the expertise of physiotherapy professionals is central to future MSK developments in Lincolnshire.
Reassurance for staff
The ICB has reassured CSP that they will continue to connect with CSP and stakeholderss that can inform the review. MSK staff can be reassured that no immediate changes are planned to services.
