Job description

Department

The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences is seeking to appoint a practice educator to support and develop practice education opportunities for our three very successful pre-registration physiotherapy degrees.

Duties of the Role

The postholder will liaise with students, apprentices, academic, administrative and practice staff at all levels in a wide range of facilities including NHS Trusts, the university, care facilities, private practices, charities and schools. This collaboration with a range of stakeholders will develop and facilitate new practice education opportunities to support our programme aims of diversifying the practice-based learning opportunities available to our physiotherapy learners. Through the provision of coaching, education, advice and support to students, apprentices, practice educators and work-place mentors, the practice educator will ensure high-quality practice-based learning across our physiotherapy programmes. The role will include participating in halfway placement visits, completing placement assessment documentation and providing long arm supervision. The postholder will also work on our apprenticeship programme, liaising with workplace mentors and apprentices to arrange and facilitate progress reviews that monitor and report on apprentices’ preparation for endpoint assessment, and complete the associated apprenticeship documentation. The post holder will have opportunities to assist in the teaching and assessment of students and will engage in scholarly activity as appropriate.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful applicant will possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject and/or professional experience and practice in the field of physiotherapy. You will also be registered as a physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council and have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. A postgraduate level degree is preferred, however, not essential.

The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered physiotherapist who is keen to make steps into an academic role. We welcome candidates with a strong passion for student and practice led learning.

You will be able to demonstrate a wide range of clinical experience within the UK healthcare context and have relevant and current experience of supporting students within clinical practice, higher education and/or practice settings. The role will require excellent communication and creative problem-solving skills.

We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as female or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School

The University of Essex is a campus based University and all academic appointments are made with the expectation that you will be present on campus to fulfil the requirements of your position. At the time of a job offer, the possibility of hybrid working, will be discussed and considered on an individual basis, but you will be required to be based within the UK.

At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.
