Te Kura Mātai Kori Tinana, Department of Exercise Sciences is one of ten academic units in New Zealand’s highest-ranked Faculty of Science. Exercise Sciences at the University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading academic programme within this field. Teaching and research covers physiotherapy, clinical exercise physiology and the subdisciplines of exercise science as we seek to understand how physical activity and exercise changes the human body when it is growing, ageing, and responding to injuries and disease.
Located at the University’s Newmarket campus, with dedicated research facilities and world-class infrastructure, the opportunity to further enhance research and teaching opportunities is genuine and significant. The Department’s combined academic and clinical expertise is further demonstrated through its Health and Rehabilitation Clinic, the Movement Neuroscience Lab, Clinical Exercise Physiology assessment and research labs, including: Biomechanics Lab; Neurometabolism Lab; Exercise Physiology and Exercise Biochemistry Labs.
We are seeking an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer of Physiotherapy[KS1] to contribute leadership and teaching primarily in our physiotherapy programme and to deliver research at the University of Auckland.
As a senior academic in the Department, you will ensure that our students have an exceptional learning experience that is informed by up-to-date research and supported by creative learning technologies. This role will include programme leadership, course coordination, clinical placements, student mentoring and supervision of postgraduate research students.
Applicants will possess an outstanding research record in physiotherapy, as demonstrated through publications in top-ranked journals and success in attracting research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a strong research programme in the area of Physiotherapy, establish new research collaborations within the university and with external stakeholders, and attract external research income.
The candidate will also be expected to take a leadership role in the refinement of research-led teaching in physiotherapy, and build a cohort of postgraduate research students.
Our ideal candidate will bring the following:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (Human Movement and Sports Science or equivalent).
- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Physiotherapy.
- Eligibility to practise as a Physiotherapist in New Zealand or Australia.
- Evidence of curricula design and programme leadership at under- and postgraduate levels.
- Experience in teaching and supervision in the fields of Physiotherapy and/or Human Movement and Sports Sciences.
- Demonstrated history of research excellence, with peer-reviewed publications and success in attracting external funding.
- Demonstrated potential to build sustainable relationships with industry partners and experience in the ability to promote partnerships and research links with outside organisations/agencies.
- The academic appointment will be made according to the successful candidate’s research profile and academic experience, ideally at Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level.
- There is the opportunity for a clinically active appointee to hold a fractional appointment with the Auckland hospital.
