The CSP is continuing to push for an urgent retention plan for NHS staff, starting with a proper pay rise to deal with the cost-of-living crisis.
Scotland – preparing for a ballot on industrial action
After members overwhelmingly rejected the Scottish Government’s pay offer in our consultative ballot, the CSP is preparing to conduct a formal ballot for industrial action.
Due to open in October, the CSP elected Council will recommend members vote YES to take industrial action, to reject the Scottish government’s NHS pay offer of five per cent.
Other health unions, representing a range of healthcare workers, are also balloting on similar timescales. However, industrial action will always remain the last resort, so the joint unions are continuing to seek to resolve the dispute with the Scottish Government, whilst working together to prepare for possible industrial action.

England and Wales – there's still time to have your say
Our consultations in England and Wales close at noon on 9 September. Council needs to have at least a similar level of response to the one in Scotland to gauge the strength of members’ feelings, before deciding what the next steps should be.
Provisional response rates are now topping 45 per cent in England and 55 per cent in Wales, but there is still time for all Agenda for Change staff to have their say on their government's NHS pay award.
The CSP member Pay Sub-Group is recommending members reject the NHS pay awards for England and Wales, but we need to know the views of all our NHS employed members.

Northern Ireland
The CSP, along with the other health unions, is continuing to strive for a meeting with the minister and permanent secretary to see when pay parity with England can be re- established. This can only be achieved through the implementation of the Pay Review Body (PRB)’s recommendations.
However - as is the case with England & Wales where the PRB recommendation is already being awarded, even this falls well below the level of pay increase that our members would expect, and indeed need, given the cost of living crisis.
The CSP is therefore now preparing to begin consultation with members in Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland given the current situation.
