The CSP has launched a search for research delivery partners for two new research projects, both of which form part of its physiotherapy workforce review.
The aim of both pieces of work is to support CSPs campaigning for more physiotherapy staff to meet current demand and a more diverse workforce, and provide valuable evidence for members to influence local workforce planning and staffing decisions over coming years.
The UK physiotherapy workforce review
The CSP is commissioning this review to support its work to gain a better understanding and knowledge of the current size and diversity of the physiotherapy workforce including registered physios, support workers and students - across the UK.
The main work of the review research partner, when appointed, will be to undertake a comprehensive review of the UK physiotherapist workforce.
The work will also provide evidence to improve the diversity of the profession, as part of the wider CSP equity, diversity and belonging strategy.
This will include mapping the current physiotherapy workforce across the UK’s four nations, as well as at a regional level. It is expected it will also provide an overview of workforce supply trends and a comprehensive description of the current and future diversity of the physio workforce.
England physiotherapy workforce demand study
This study is being commissioned by the CSP with the aim of estimating the size of the physiotherapy workforce – registered and non-registered – required to deliver several current NHS commitments in England.
This assessment of workforce demand will feed into the CSP’s UK physiotherapy workforce review, outlined above, which is taking place concurrently.
While this study will initially only cover England, the aim is for the methodology used for the study be usable to replicate a similar study in the UK’s other nations, or in other areas of policy where evidence is needed to address workforce issues.
The deadline for tender submissions is 10 November.
