Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

The 23-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care. You will be responsible for administering general physiotherapy within the hospital, residential care homes and community. You will manage physiotherapy clinics, planning general courses of treatment for outpatients. You must carry out exercise regimes

for post myocardial infarction patients and chaperoned pelvic floor exercise regimes, liaising with the Community Nurses on sports related injuries, including school visits. Teaching and assessing staff on a mobility rehabilitation programme within the wards and units, you will support the teaching of lifting techniques and manual handling. You will be responsible for

implementing a ‘falls prevention strategy’, thereby identifying and monitoring the population at risk. When required, you will participate in overseas medical referral meetings and CPD meetings with doctors and produce ergonomic studies.

Holding a diploma/degree in physiotherapy with Health Professions Council Registration (UK) or equivalent, you will have substantial experience in a physiotherapy environment and working knowledge of a broad range of conditions and clinical placements.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded by the UK Government through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • Salary: £30k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, taxable in St Helena
  • A tax free International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk
  • Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk
