Wales 'fire-break' lockdown announcement

A short, sharp 'fire-break' lockdown will be introduced across Wales from 6pm on 23 October 23 to help regain control of coronavirus, First Minister Mark Drakeford has announced.

The Minister’s announcement stated that there will be an all Wales lockdown from 6pm Friday 23 October, to Monday 9 November. The lockdown will involve the closure of 'non-essential' retail and hospitality.  Healthcare services, including the independent/private sector can continue.

The Coronavirus regulations exempt healthcare settings from closure, and these regulations remain unchanged during this lockdown. Regulations have only changed for 'non-essential' retail and hospitality to close.

However, as before, members must follow guidance on reasonable steps to minimise the risk of exposure to the virus, such as PPE and maintaining 2 metres social distancing as much as possible.

The UK COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) guidance has been developed jointly by the Devolved Administrations (Public Health Wales on behalf of Wales) and Public Health England (PHE), NHS England & NHS Improvement.

The CSP’s advice on the use of PPE remains the same and is available here.

We also have an FAQs page for those in private/independent practice which should answer any further questions members have about practising during these times.
