While he was at Hobbs Rehabilitation on 12 January, he met physiotherapists, as well as patients and their families. They gave him detailed, first-hand accounts of the benefits of rehabilitation.
The practice was set up in 2005 by CSP members Nicky Ellis and Helen Hobbs. After starting in Winchester, Hobbs Rehabilitation now has nine clinics across the south of England.
Mr Brine, whose brief includes health protection and improvement, and new models of care, said: ‘I learnt a huge amount. I met some really inspiring people who've been through so much but, through their work at Hobbs, are turning their lives around after illness or injury.’
Invest in rehab
Ms Ellis said: ‘I hope that he realises that investing in rehab would make a difference, both to the patient, and to the health and social care costs of the country.’
The CSP’s campaigns and regional engagement officer, Mindy Daubeny, said that a visit, such as this, could help to bring the importance of rehab to the forefront of a policymaker’s mind.
‘This was an excellent example of how members can help with influencing. If you are interested in hosting an MP visit, contact the CSP’s campaigns and regional engagement team by emailing cre@csp.org.uk,’ she said.
