CSP subscriptions to increase in January 2025 in line with inflation

Membership subscriptions will rise by 3.1 per cent to continue funding high value member services and promotion of the profession.

The CSP has set a 3.1 per cent increase for subscriptions for 2025. This increase aligns with inflation. It reflects the rising costs of providing essential member services and advocacy now and into the future, while also recognising the financial pressures faced by members.

Chair of CSP Council, Ishmael Beckford, said: 'We are committed to providing value for money to our members. We have made every effort to keep this increase to a minimum, while ensuring the CSP can continue delivering and improving the full range of benefits and services to our 65,000 members.

'This increase is essential to sustain high-quality employment and professional support, advocacy and services such as PLI and legal representation for members. It also means we can continue to grow our collective influence with employers and governments, and champion the value of physiotherapy to the public.'

Over the last 12 months, thanks to members’ funding, and the efforts of all our teams, the CSP has delivered more for our members and the profession, including:

  • Influencing above inflation pay recommendations of 5.5 per cent in the NHS in England, Scotland and Wales, which in turn set market rate for pay deals elsewhere and in the independent sector
  • Providing more CSP staff on the ground to support members organise around local workplace and health system issues
  • Supporting more members facing HCPC hearings, at an average legal cost of £20k per case
  • Successfully developing an expanded network of workplace equality reps, raising awareness and organising around equality issues
  • Championing rehabilitation with the new UK government, securing meetings with all health and social care ministers, and an invitation to input into the NHS Long Term Plan.

And in the year ahead, we will continue to campaign and influence on your behalf and provide you with advice, support and protection and a range of effective member benefits

Under the new subscription rates, which take effect from 1 January 2025:

  • Chartered members practising in the UK will pay an additional £13.68 per year, with the annual rate now £455.88 or £37.99 per month.
  • Working associate members will pay an additional £4.20 per year, with the annual rate now £141.72 or £11.81 per month.
  • Student members will pay an annual increase of £1.32 per year, with the annual rate now £47.52 or £3.96 per month.

Members will receive individual renewal details later this week, setting out their payments for 2025.

As a not-for-profit member funded organisation the CSP relies on subscriptions to continue to advocate for the profession, provide services and provide the community of practice.

We are also modernising the service by replacing and renewing essential front-end and back-end systems. Investing in the CSP’s digital capabilities will ensure the CSP continues to provide effective and efficient services to members, though some of the changes will come in over the course of the next few years.


What are you doing to reduce costs?

We have:

  • closed the old staff pension scheme to limit future costs
  • reduced travel costs through more online events and meetings
  • moved to a less costly London office
  • closed the Edinburgh office
  • We are also reviewing our digital capabilities to ensure we are working in a modern and effective way but this comes at a cost initially

Why are you not using reserves to keep subs down?

We have to retain some reserves for future liabilities and unexpected contingencies.

Why is the CSP membership more expensive than many other professional bodies?

CSP membership includes professional body, union and insurance in a single membership. This makes it a lot cheaper for members than the equivalent package of multiple memberships other professions such as chiropractors, osteopaths or doctors must have.

For example, an FCP only needs their CSP membership, but a GP needs BMA, RCGP and medical defence union subscriptions to get the same benefits.

For associate members we are cheaper than most union equivalent memberships.


Why not stop sending out Frontline to save money?

We keep the format and costs of Frontline under regular review. But Frontline is one of the top three most used methods of members getting information from the CSP. A majority still prefer to have a hard copy.

The environmental impact is minimised by using sustainable paper and paper wrappers and are looking for further ways to reduce the environmental impact of the magazine. It should be borne in mind that is an environmental impact of using electronic devices and communications as an alternative. Members can opt out of receiving the hard copy by contacting enquiries.
