Students and HCPC-registered physiotherapists who want to volunteer for the London Marathon on 26 April need to register their interest online.
The organisers of the marathon this week launched the volunteer portal on their website.
You have until the end of February to register your interest and those successful in securing a place will be told by mid-March.
Each year at the London Marathon a couple of hundred physiotherapists and physio students work alongside St John Ambulance, podiatrists and doctors along the 26.2 mile route and at the finish area. Others volunteer for specific teams of runners raising funds for charities.
‘It is not only great fun but also a great chance to gain or increase your experience and knowledge of working around mass participation sporting events and being part of a multidisciplinary medical team,’ said lead physio for the event, Rory Brown.
Changes to volunteer system
‘There have been some changes this year to the volunteer system and so we would request all physiotherapists, whether previous volunteers or new ones, to to register your interest for this year’s event.
‘Unfortunately we always have high numbers of applicants for the positions so cannot guarantee that you will be offered a place but we will endeavour to let you know as soon as possible.’
Last year overall physio contact numbers reached 1,400.
