Accessing your local CSP steward

CSP members encountering personal difficulties in the workplace can access support and representation through their local CSP steward. Local CSP stewards are on hand to help members with grievance, disciplinary and regrading cases, for example, and should be the first port of call for members wishing to discuss any issue of concern.

The CSP has over 1,000 stewards throughout the UK, both in the NHS and in independent sector workplaces. CSP stewards are thoroughly trained and are backed up and supported by:

CSP stewards also work closely with colleagues from other professions, particularly those from chiropody, radiography, dietetics and orthoptics, with whom we have joint working arrangements to ensure members have better leverage in the workplace.

Stewards News

Stewards are kept up-to-date and informed of national developments in industrial and employment relations and the health service through Stewards News, the CSP stewards' own news publication. See the news and events section to access current and archive of Stewards News issues.

Stewards are encouraged to share their news and negotiating successes with other stewards through the Stewards News. Contributions should be sent to the Stewards News editor Warren Glover by email: gloverw@csp.org.uk.

Thinking of becoming a CSP steward?

If you are thinking of becoming a CSP steward you will need to get nominated and elected in your workplace. Once elected, you will then need to become accredited in order to gain your entitlement to time off work to undertake your steward duties.

In addition to the normal duties of a CSP steward, stewards have the opportunity to contribute to the CSP’s Annual Representative Conference (ARC) by submitting motions on a range of interesting and topical subjects.

To find out more about becoming a steward please contact CSP accreditation officer Jan Hague by email.

Stewards' accreditation

If you have already been elected as a steward, please complete the Steward's Accreditation Form.
