CSP OPAC new users help
Logging In: The login screen will appear as soon as you opt for a member service. Please ensure that you have read the Terms and Conditions before proceeding. You will need to enter your user ID on the first screen and your password on the second. Your user ID and password are the same as for the CSP website.
- There is a 20 character limit to the User ID on the OPAC; if your User ID is more than 20 characters use only the first 20.
- If you change your ID and password for the website it will not become active on the OPAC until the following day, but the old ID and password should still work during that day.
“May be copied” - CIOG journal articles have a status of "may be copied". On the left hand side is a link to the CSP LIS page on copying services, this contains the forms for requesting photocopies. These should be printed, completed and returned to the Library and Information Services team with the payments form.
How to search - if you are having problems searching there is context sensitive help available in the top right-hand corner of the page. Open a search screen to find help on how to search.
There are a number of pre-defined searches to suit different information types and different levels of complexity. Generally there is no need to put in the full details, the beginning or a title or an authors surname will suffice.
See the Library Catalogue page for more details.
From anywhere in the system you can run a "Quick Search" from the top of the page.
Subject search - a subject search will present the terms found in the thesaurus that match the search term. If you click on the term it will show you the detail of that term within the thesaurus, to see the results from here click “show titles”. From the page showing the terms in the thesaurus click the number of records to go straight to the results.
Full details - The results of a search are presented as a ‘hitlist’, showing brief details of the records. To see the full details of an item, click on the title. If you want to see the full details of several items, select them by ticking the appropriate boxes and then view the list by selecting the citations button.
Sort the results - you can sort the results of you search from the ‘hitlist’. Click on the Filter icon, this allow you to restrict to a particular media type and to do a two level sort by date, title, and author in either ascending or descending order.
Change the number of records per page - on all the search pages you can select the ‘ Number of hits per result page’ from a drop down box. The default is set at 40.
Reserve an item to borrow - to reserve an item you would like to borrow (members only) view the item in full detail. Under the record is a ‘Reserve a copy’ icon
at the bottom of form. If you have not already logged in you will be requested to do so. From this page is a link to "Terms and Conditions" - please read these before submitting your reservation.
Assuming the selected item is available for borrowing the system will accept your reservation and you will get an acknowledgement by email. Staff will then contact you to arrange for its despatch.
Lists - Lists will be used by the CSP to promote various aspects of the work we are doing for you. They will allow various items that may not be subject related to be brought together e.g. Recent acquisitions in the LRC. This is an area for further development.
Saved searches - You may save searches in your account, to do this you must be logged in.
- Having run your search select save search
- Name your search and submit
Known issues:
- The email and EndNote functions are not working satisfactorily, we hope this will be corrected shortly - 28/4/08
- Ticks used to mark items of interest disappear when you click on a title to see full details - this is a known problem which is due to be corrected in the next upgrade when a ‘clipboard’ feature is due to be introduced with the next system upgrade - 28/04/08
- During data migration some punctuation was not recognised and has been replaced by an upside-down question mark ( ¿). We apologise for this and are making corrections as they come to our attention. 06/05/08
