Library catalogue
CSP Library OPAC
The CSP Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) contains records of books, reports and other grey literature, CSP publications and theses held in the Learning Resource Centre.
Responses to consultation documents ceased to be added from the beginning of 2006 and Media releases have not been included since the beginning of 2007 but old records are still in the OPAC and available if needed.
As well as the more usual types of records the OPAC also includes substantive articles from CIOG journals that are not indexed in commercial bibliographic databases.
The OPAC is available on the internet for searching and members of the CSP may log in to access additional services.
Guide to searching:
There are a number of ways in which you can search the OPAC. These are listed at the top of the left hand menu.
Title/Author Search: The title / author search allows you to search a title author combination. This is useful to check if we have a known item.
Words anywhere: This is a very wide-ranging search that will look for particular words in any field. You should select the words are an exact phrase, a ll exact or similar words (AND) or any word or similar word (OR)
Author search: Use this to find all the works by a particular author. An author may use one or more initials or their full forename in a publication; whichever they chose to use will be in the catalogue. If you simple search by their surname the catalogue will show all entries for that name and you can then chose those you wish to see. An author may be a personal author e.g. Bobath, Berta or a corporate author e.g. Department of Health.
Subject search: All entries in the catalogue are indexed using terms in the thesaurus to reflect the subject matter of the document. If the ‘ Retrieve a list of subject terms’ is ticked the search will retrieve a list of subjects with the number of documents to which that subject has been apply; if it is not ticked it will simply retrieve the documents. If a term is entered that is not a preferred thesaurus term the preferred term may be shown together with the number of documents indexed with that term. E.g. ALLERGY use HYPERSENSITIVITY
Journal title search: use this search to see if we have a particular journal. You will be able to see the extent of our holdings but this does not show you the articles within the journal.
Journal article search: We have indexed substantive articles within the CIOG journals that are not indexed in commercial bibliographic databases. If you want to search bibliographic databases for journal articles there are number of freely available databases. See the links on the left hand menu or Bibliographic databases
Advanced search: The advanced search permits you to combine terms using Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) and to select the fields you wish to search. Title, subject, author (personal or corporate), words, series, classmark or ISBN and you may select if the terms entered is and exact match, the first part of the field or anywhere in the field.
Member services: You may search the OPAC without logging in but you do need to login to reserve items, view you borrowing account or save searches.
Logging In: The login screen will appear as soon as you opt for a member service. Please ensure that you have read the Terms and Conditions before proceeding. You will need to enter your user ID on the first screen and your password on the second. Your user ID and password are the same as for the CSP website.
- There is a 20 character limit to the User ID; if your User ID is more than 20 characters use only the first 20.
- If you change your ID and password for the website it will not become active on the OPAC until the following day, but the old ID and password should still work during that day.
Saved searches: Members may, if they wish, save searches that they have run and rerun them again at a later date. Having run a search there is a ‘Save Search’ icon at the top right hand corner of the screen. Name the search and this will be saved in your account
