CPD co-ordinators' network
The term 'CPD co-ordinator' covers a range of posts, whether formal or informal, which have the responsibility for supporting staff CPD in a formalised way. You could be working in management but not necessarily.
Your role could be to:
- support staff to pick appropriate CPD activities
- develop and deliver in service sessions
- co-ordinate peer review or clinical supervision
- act as a mentor
- undertake training needs analysis for colleagues
- act as a signpost to CPD information from other organisations, such as the CSP.
Depending on the nature of the role, you may not have large amounts of time to dedicate to formalising CPD. But sufficient time must be set aside to allow you to perform your role.
If you are a CPD co-ordinator within your organisation, you will find it beneficial to join the community of UK-wide CPD co-ordinators on InteractiveCSP. Joining the CPD co-ordinators' network on Interactivecsp will allow you to:
- access other like minded individuals
- share good practice on CPD issues with one another
- link with the CSP and local organisations to address concerns and issues around learning and development.
If you are interested in joining the CPD co-ordinators' network or finding out more about it, contact the CPD Unit InteractiveCSP or via the Enquiry Handling Unit on 020 7306 6666.
CIOGs and CPD
The CSP clinical interest and occupational groups (CIOGs) are a useful resource for your continuing professional development, providing CPD opportunities including:
- short courses
- newsletters
- forums for discussion on Interactivecsp (link to above)
- latest research and evidence base information
- a community of like minded individuals
- funding for CPD
- experts in the clinical field
- portfolios
- opportunities on the executive committee and many other benefits.
Contact the clinical interest and occupational groups (CIOGs) directly for information on CPD opportunities provided by specific groups: a full list is provided on this website.
Network for CPD and postgraduate education
This network of higher education institution representatives aims to:
- encourage higher education institutions' development of CPD opportunities
- strengthen the CSP links with the higher education sector and advise the professional body on developing its CPD initiatives
- provide a higher education forum and network for sharing experience and ideas on issues relating to qualified physiotherapists' CPD
- promote good practice on issues such as programme development and accreditation and the creation of flexible CPD opportunities.
Membership of the network is decided by each individual higher education institution and is reviewed every two years. Representatives interested in the network should email the CPD administrator for further information.
Clinical educators
Many physiotherapists fulfil the role of clinical educator and there are increasing examples of local peer support networks forming. These are created by:
- speciality
- geographical location
- clinical educators seeking peer support while pursuing the experiential route of the Accreditation of Clinical Educators scheme.
To find out if one exists in your area, or if you are interested in establishing one, contact the clinical education co-ordinator at the higher education institution to which you offer placements.
